Some people think that Google has started to discount web directories. I will have to agree with them to a certain extent. Google has discounted the cheap link directory that is out to make a fast buck. There are still many web directories that provide a strong one way backlink imho.

I agree with you if the post is long enough lets say 500 words at least then you can submit it to article directories for more online visibility.I would add also submit posts to blog carnivals.

Search engines value one way links very much. If you can produce one way links it is the best thing

It is a very good post. I know oneway link building is important. But I never thought it is the most important strategy. I always followed riciprocal link building strategy. But the problem is finding the source to make postings. most of the blogs use no follow tags and we are left with very less opportunity.
